Going to your first metal concert or festival is always exciting because there is great music and great people all in one place. All metal fans must attend at least one festival in their lifetime. If this is your first time going, we are here to help you get prepared. Remember that being a metal fan means being yourself. It’s perfectly okay if you accessorize, but it’s in no way mandatory. Metal communities can be, despite appearances, some of the most accepting ones.
Less talking more rocking! Here are our top tips on how to get ready for the greatest experience of your life.
Booking Your Ticket in Advance and Finding the Location
Not all festivals have easily accessible locations. If the concert in held in a city, getting there is much easier than those in isolated areas. However, make sure you sort out all the details before you start off. Have you bought your train/coach ticket? Do you have accommodations (if the festival is in another city)? Who is taking you there, and who is bringing you back?
If you haven’t bought your ticket yet, then this should be your first priority. Since it is your first festival, we suggest getting the best tickets. After all, nothing beats head banging in the front rows!
Open Air Festivals Present a Rain Possibility!
Bring a waterproof tent and a waterproof backpack as well as a raincoat or waterproof jacket. In short, make sure you are fully waterproofed, just in case. When it rains, it pours. Unfortunately, this means that you will see a lot of mud. Fortunately, we metal fans are top in the footwear department, which brings us to our next point.
Own Your Outfit – Rock It!
As I said in the beginning, metal clothing is not for everyone. If you do not want to dress up, you are free to do so, but wearing a cool outfit will make it a lot easier to catch some eyes and make some acquaintances.
Let’s start from the bottom. As for shoes, you should go for the classic black leather boots. These always work as they are sturdy and will keep you prepared for anything. For pants, you can go with leather (notice the common theme here) or some nice denim jeans. A short leather skirt or some high waisted lace-up hot pants will show your sexy and dangerous side.
Depending on the weather, you can combine a t-shirt with a jacket. Leather or denim are two great materials, and you can choose any combination. Your clothing can be simply black, but you can also go for some extra metal from spikes!
Always Be Polite
Rock music may be against the establishment, but it is in no way against common sense. Metal fans can be a great community, and you should join them with the right attitude. Don’t push your way to the front, disturbing others. Also, make sure you do not go overboard with drinking. If people do not want to pogo or mosh pit, do not push them against their will. Nobody likes that. Also, if you do get into a mosh pit, please keep your elbows down!
These are our rules for rocking your first metal concert. Be prepared, be safe, and most of all make sure to rock on!
